Travel card
You can make phone calls from hotels, payphones, office or when staying with family or friends in the United States.
The card is easy to use: all you need to do is dial the toll-free access number, then you input your PIN, and you'll get an ad asking you to place your domestic or international appeal.
Please note that all calls are running through the U.S. network, and must be made as if you were calling from the United States:
- 1 + area code + phone number to the United States and other countries
- 011 + country code + number for all international calls.
In practice
Before you dial the 7-digit number of your correspondent don't forget to type 1 followed by a three-digit area code.
Number for emergencies is 911
411 for information
The 800 and 888 numbers are green numbers, as they replace the regional codes, they must be preceded by 1.
The emergency numbers and green numbers are not charged.
For overseas calls: type 011 then the country code and finally reaching the number of your correspondent.
Collect calls are obtained either through specialized companies (1-800-COLLECT, for example)
To reach an operator: dial 0, then the area code and then the number you want. An operator will answer you and you only have to specify that you want a collect call
